Kako?
The kakophone is a music-composition machine.
Select a serial number and a magic code and the kakophone will create a ringtone in your chosen style.
Try different magic codes to produce results ranging from slow to fast, happy to sad, experimental to melodic.
The ringtone composed will always be different and virtually unique, with a total of one hundred thousand billion possible combinations.
To keep things interesting, the kakophone is reconfigured every day at midnight, meaning that even if you enter the same serial number and magic code, the machine will create a different tune from one day to the next.
Once you have created a tune you like, simply follow the instructions to download it to your telephone.
Feel free to create a whole host of different tunes.

Can the kakophone really produce over 100,000,000,000 different ringtones?
Yes. The chances of two people creating exactly the same tune are almost infinite. Statistically, it is however possible that some tunes may sound similar. You are free to create as many as you like and pay only when downloading a ringtone to your telephone.

How does the kakophone create ringtones?
The machine uses a specially designed music-composition algorithm that reflects the settings you enter based on the serial number and magic code. The 3 adjustment knobs in the bottom left corner – density, tempo and pitch – do not change the musical composition per se; they are used to vary the number of notes, speed up or slow down the tempo and create lower- or higher-pitched tunes.

Will the ringtones I create be compatible with my telephone?
The kakophone creates polyphonic ringtones in midi format (.mid). Compatible telephones must be able to play polyphonic midi ringtones with a minimum of 16 simultaneous notes.
The kakophone is compatible with virtually all the latest telephones. Please read the documentation provided with your mobile phone or check compatibility by downloading a test ringtone.

I’ve created a ringtone I like. How do I get it on my mobile phone?
Follow the instructions that appear on screen when you click“Download the ringtone to my mobile phone”.
You will first need to select your country and network and enter your email address if required, then send a text message to the short number shown on screen. The cost of downloading the ringtone will be shown during this process and will appear on your next mobile phone bill.
Example 1: If you have a WAP phone
1- Send the text message to the number shown on screen.
2- A few seconds later, you will receive a text message containing the WAP address for your file.
3- Confirm the address to download the file to your telephone (“Go to” on your mobile).
Example 2: If your telephone has a Bluetooth/infrared connection or if you have a USB cable to link the telephone to your computer
1- Enter your email address in the field provided BEFORE sending your text message.
2- A few seconds later, you will receive a text message containing the file address and the ringtone will be sent by email.
3- Copy the attached file from your email message to your mobile using your Bluetooth connection or USB cable.
NB: You will have 30 minutes to download the file before it is deleted from the server.

Can I share the ringtone I have created with other devices/people?
By all means, share your new ringtone with your little sister! However, ringtones are provided for private use only. Any distribution of kakophone ringtones on the internet, on CD-ROM or via any other media is strictly prohibited. For more information, please read the kakophone Terms of Use.
